Sunday 2nd June 2019, Jesus Green Cambridge!
In Chinese culture the Dragon Boat Festival is one of the biggest festivals of the year! In order to promote cultural diversity and celebrate this important Chinese festival, we have organised the annual Cambridge Chinese Dragon Boat Festival. This charity fund-raising event will take place between 10a.m. and 17.00p.m. on Sunday 2nd June 2019.
Since the very first celebration of the Dragon Boat Festival in Cambridge in 1996, the event has grown in popularity. It is attended by a large number of people, growing year on year. The event now attracts local and international media coverage including Cambridge radio stations and internationally televised news coverage by China’s predominant broadcaster, CCTV.
In addition to the dragon boat racing on the river Cam, our marquee hosts a programme of multi-cultural performances and entertainment for the whole family throughout the day as well as food stalls and refreshments.
The Dragon Boat Festival in Cambridge, organised by Peter LEE, MBE, has been very successful in previous years. There was a high local turnout, and many travelled from all over East Anglia, Oxford and London to attend. It was fantastic to see different community and cultural groups join in the activities and share refreshments in the festival atmosphere. It is a family-friendly event with lots of stalls and entertainment suitable for all age groups.
The dragon boat race is a much-anticipated highlight, with previous participating teams from companies such as ARM and Huawei, universities including Cambridge and Oxford, and various local communities. The event also drew sponsorship from both local and international businesses.
